Robin & Babette when we visit their magical and Christmas decorated home North of Copenhagen.

Influencer and Creative Consultant, Trine Kjær, has always been in love with Christmas. Trine grew up in
a Family with strong traditions and values and the joyful memories from her own childhood along with traditions
from her husband, Nicholas Kawamura and his family, have now become important for the couple to pass on
to their own children.

“Christmas has always been my favorite time of the year. We always spent Christmas Eve in my childhood home
and it was always only my mother, father, older brother and grandparents on my father's side. It was a quiet Christmas, we had time to enjoy the food and the presents - both the ones we gave and received. It’s one of the traditions
I've continued - only one present at a time which entails that we often are still up way beyond midnight opening
presents and eating homemade biscuits and sweets. As our own children are still so young, we keep some presents
for the next day; it is really nice to look forward to on Christmas Day”

"Christmas Eve always starts by watching the Disney Christmas show, champagne for the adults and a special kids champagne together with snacks. After the Disney Christmas show the children start putting the presents under the Christmas tree. For me this is the most magical moment of December. A joy of expectation.”

While some people only start to care about Christmas when they have their own children,
Christmas traditions and decorations have been important for both Trine & Nicho long before kids.

“I go all in with my Christmas decorations and I have gradually collected an incredible number of boxes
stored in the cellar. I buy vintage when we are abroad and we spent several years before we had children where Nicholas and I gave each other Christmas decorations during December.

Advent Sundays are also very special for us. As a child we would have apple dumplings followed by
something Christmassy for dinner and this is now our own tradition. Going out into the woods as a family to
find the tallest and most beautiful tree, is also something I have taken with me from my own childhood and
now look forward to doing every year with our own kids.

Our house is large so it takes time to decorate, we usually start in November. In this way the house is ready
by 1. December. We have pine garlands on the bannister, advent wreath, calendar candles, lots of bows, hearts
and stars. Light strings outside and plenty of candles in the house. Lots of oranges, nuts and dried fruit and biscuits in tins that play Christmas tunes."

Just as important as the decorations is the food during December. And the menu on Christmas Eve has become a new strong tradition for Trine & Nicho with a good mix from both sides of the family.

"Nicholas and I have hosted Christmas Eve twice. First time was in our former flat in Frederiksberg and the second
time was last year in our house. It was something quite special to host here, in the house where we expect the children
to grow up. Last Christmas we were together with my parents, Nicholas's parents and our two children. Babette was yet
to be born. Duck is always on the menu and “medisterpølse”, a tradition from Nicholas’ family and then we serve crisps, which is a tradition from my family. We serve a good French red wine and for dessert classic cold rice pudding
which I always prepare and to this we drink port.”

For the Christmas stockings Trines kids are spoiled with the usual small toys and creative kits but an important new tradition has also being established as some of the presents in the stockings are carefully selected Christmas ornaments for their kids to keep for generations. Something Trine would have loved to have herself when moving from home.

their stockings when they wake up. The presents are a mixture of creative toys such as a spinning top or a bath bomb and we also give them Christmas decorations which they decorate their room with. After Christmas I put these in separate boxes for the kids. In this way they will each have a box of nice Christmas decorations when they leave home.
I wish I had had the same as it takes ages to build up.”
